What is astigmatism?

Astigmatism is an eye condition caused by a defect in the lens or cornea of the eye resulting in a deviation from spherical curvature. The defect prevents light rays from meeting at a common focus, resulting in distorted images and blurred vision.

Colored eye contacts for astigmatism may be purchased, though they are usually hard to find. Contact lenses for astigmatism are different from regular contacts in that they are made to correct the foci by using a toric lens.

As of now, colored eye contacts for astigmatism are only manufactured in the soft variety.

Colored eye contacts for astigmatism are more difficult to find than most other colored eye contact lenses because they are made by a limited number of manufacturers due in part to their low consumer demand, and also in part to the additional costs of manufacturing them.

In addition to a limited volume produced, they are also limited in variety produced. It is difficult to find costume colored eye contacts that work tocorrect astigmatism. You will likely be limited to usual eye colors.

Also, the cost of purchasing the contact lenses is greater than a regular lens. Generally, you can expect to pay about 25% more for contacts lenses that will work to correct astigmatism.

Having a prescription is important and you should have gone through an appropriate eye exam to make sure no damage will be done from the usage.

Halloween Contacts are among the favorite types of contacts worn on the festive occasion of Halloween. Some like to add a unique, fun and interesting feature to their costume by wearing a pair of Theatrical contact lenses.

Are you considering stunning your friends or making your costume extraordinary? Perhaps you should consider changing your eyes by trying on a pair of Halloween Contact Lenses. It’s possible to attain a pair of costume lenses that look great and are comfortable and pay an affordable amount.

Is it the case that you have already started to plan your costume and you’re now searching for the perfect pair of Halloween contacts to accompany your costume? Or are you looking to browse at costume lenses until you see a pair that you particularly like, and would fit well with your costume? In any case, perhaps you should check out some of the more regularly selected Halloween contact lenses available online.

How much do costume lenses cost?

Theatrical costume lenses are actually not as expensive as one may assume. It is reasonable to be able to purchase a pair of Halloween costume lenses for about 60 dollars. Many companies mass produce lenses so that they can be made affordable to the consumer. The reasoning behind this is that the contacts are able to be sold online without paying for the high overhead cost like a traditional store would.

However, hand-painted, custom-made costume lenses can cost up to a few hundred dollars. Among the more expensive lenses are scleral costume lenses, these are lenses which cover not only your pupil and iris, but the entire visible area of your eye, including the pupil and iris. Because they cover your entire eye, these contacts can provide a particularly amazing effect like Black Sclera lenses. In addition, custom-made lenses are usually painted per order, so it would be imperative that you order them several weeks in advance in order to get them on time.

When taking care of Halloween eye contacts it is best to have the following: a solution ready for soft contact lenses (should be non-rub), tweezers, and a lens case for your contacts. The tweezers are optional but they will help you to pick up the contact lenses easily.

If you own more than one pair of contacts, make sure to keep each pair in its own case.

First, make sure to wash your hands with water before handling contacts lenses. Next, pick up the lens carefully either using your finger or tweezers and place it on the tip of your finger. Be sure to rinse the lens with the solution. You may now place the contact in your eye. At first it may be difficult not to blink when putting the contacts in but over time it will become easier.

When you are finished wearing your contacts, take them out and rinse them again with the solution. Empty the lens case and refill it with fresh solution. Now put them back in the case for use at a later time.

If you do not expect to wear your lenses again for an extended period of time (like over one week), it is highly recommended that you re-fill the case with fresh solution and rinse the contacts about once a week. If you forget to maintain your lenses for several weeks, it is recommended that you rinse them twice and then place them in fresh solution for a few hours before wearing them.

If you are a regular contact lens wearer then Halloween contacts will not feel much different than usual. If you have never worn contacts before, upon the first few uses you might feel an urge to rub your eye. In this case, one tip is to take advantage of lubricant drops. Another idea is to wear your lenses a few days before the event and increase the length of use gradually.

Yes, you do need a prescription to buy colored eye contacts in the United States. It may come as a surprise, but you even need a prescription to buy zero power colored lenses.

There had been a time when the U.S. government classified zero power or “plano” contacts as cosmetic devices and not medical devices. However, the FDA later released a consumer alert about the lenses, reporting that they “present significant risks of blindness and other eye injury if they are distributed without a prescription…”

Then a few years later, President Bush signed a law into effect, the Plano Contact Lens Law, which classified all contact lenses as medical devices. Along with this law, all contact lenses, worn for any purpose, cannot be sold without a valid contact lens prescription written by an eye doctor.

Therefore, you do need a prescription for colored contact lenses. If you see colored contacts being sold anywhere else, it is very possible that the merchant is is breaking the law.

There are three main types of colored eye contacts: visibility tints, enhancement tints and opaque color tints.

Visibility Tints

A visibility tint is a light blue or green tint that is added to a lens to make it easier to see when putting it on, taking it off or picking it up. A visibility tint does not affect the color of your eyes.

Enhancement Tints

An enhancement tint is a little darker than a visibility tint. While a visibility tint does not change your eye color, an enhancement tint does. In fact, these are specifically made to improve or enhance your eye color. For this reason, enhancement tints work well to intensify light colored eyes.

Opaque Color Tints

Opaque color tints are dark tints that can totally change the color of your eyes. Color tinted contacts are typically made of solid colors. This is because people with dark eye color may use color tinted contact lenses to change their eye color. These types of contact lenses come in many different colors, including green, blue, violet, amethyst and gray.

Theatrical contact lenses are also considered opaque color tints. These specialty colored eye contacts, long used in movie production, are now widely available for the public and can morph the lens wearer into an alien, jaguar, or other exotic creature .

Modeling The Nature of The Eye

Contact lens manufacturers have attempted to recreate the nature of the iris, the colored part, of the eye. In fact, some colored eye contacts have a collection of colored dots and lines on the lens to make them look more natural on the eye.

However, even with these contacts, the center of the lens (the part that lies over your pupil) is clear so that you can see.
